Description
Sedirea japonica, known as 'Nagoran' in Japan, is native to Japan, the Ryukyu Islands, Korea, and western Yunnan and Zhejiang provinces of China in subtropical forests. The flowers are well-known for their strong citrus scent. This plant prefers cool to intermediate temperatures with lots of air flow in a potting mix that breathes well. We have luck in sphagnum moss, but be sure not to over-saturate the moss with water, or it can be susceptible to rot.
Technically, the taxonomists have renamed this 'Phalaenopsis japonica'. But the structure and culture of this plant are so different that we prefer to call it Sedirea.
Growing culture is best in sphagnum moss or bark mix. These also do well mounted on slabs if you have consistently high humidity.
The current batch has just been repotted into 2.25" pots with sphagnum moss as of May 2025, and all are blooming size!
We are also offering them pre-moss-mounded in our 3D-printed Neofinetia Onami Pot. However, if you prefer a different 3D pot option, simply purchase any K25 Neofinetia Pot, and we’ll refund any additional shipping cost that the substitution may add to your order.
