Description
This is a seed-grown remake of the hybrid Louis Chaton, produced using tetraploid parents. As a primary hybrid, the flower form is highly consistent, with the blooms closely resembling the plant pictured—an example from this exact batch. The full, well-shaped flowers create a striking and showy display.
Originally registered on January 1, 1898, both Veitch Nursery and Maron submitted the hybrid on the same day. Veitch’s name, Adela, became the official name, while Louis Chaton was accepted as a synonym. We prefer the name Louis Chaton, as Adela is commonly used for several other hybrids. The flowers are among the longest-lasting we’ve seen in any Cattleya, often flowering for over 4 weeks, as opposed to the standard 2 to 3 week bloom time for larger Cattleya.
This variety typically sheaths in the summer and flowers in the winter.
